Make Your Own Homemade Bisquick Mix Recipe

Sharing is caring!

It’s always nice and easy to grab a box of Bisquick when you’re making biscuits, pancakes, waffles, etc and want to be done in a hurry.  But, it can be a lot more inexpensive to make your own mix!  After you spend a few minutes making the original mix (this recipe makes 12 1/2 cups) using it is just as quick and easy as using the Bisquick.

10 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
4 tsp. salt
2 cups shortening

Mix first four ingredients in a large bowl (use a whisk to mix well). With two forks, or a pastry cutter if you have one, cut the shortening into the mixture until it forms coarse crumbs. Mix can be stored in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

  1. I never use bisquick, so I don’t know what to add. Water? How much?

  2. I have never used bisquick so what do you need to add to it

  3. I stocked up on some boxes of Bisquik a while back – they were on closeout for .50 a box and I had an ecoupon which made one free 🙂

I keep them in the freezer, and I just ran out. Might have to try this one. Thanks!

  4. This sounds like a great way to save a little money and make it yourself! Thanks for sharing!

  6. This is awesome! I use GF bisquick and we love it. I’m sure this recipe would work for us if I just use GF all-purpose flour instead. Thanks for saving me some money!

  7. Seems easy!

  8. I’m going to give this a shot. I use Bisquick when I’m feeling lazy & don’t want to make “real” biscuits. I also use it for the Impossible Pie recipes. It’s handy stuff to have around. But like everything else, the price has gone up. This has been pinned, haha.

  9. I love this tip. I love that you know what ingredients are in this mix!

  10. I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s on my list of stuff to try!

  11. How do you actually use it? It sounds great but don’t know how to use it to make for example biscuits or pie shells. I would need instructions for use.

  12. We love biquick in my household!! It is so good for so many things! Bet making it from scratch makes it taste even better!

  13. My sister has been doing this for years!! I have a white flour sensitivity so we don’t eat biscuits around here very often(my husband seems to have survived) hahaha
